I'm 37, my whole life I've been over weight - I think about that and it kind of sounds like a cop out, but it's not meant to be. I'm just saying that honestly, no one in my family ever worried too much about being healthy, and it really took me this long to realize that it's worth worrying about.
I quit smoking on November 16, 2011, that was 4 months, 3 weeks, and 4 days ago, whoo hoo, I can honestly say that part of my life is behind me, but I do miss it, sometimes I still want to smoke even now. However, I'm working on changing my life and that was the first step, I won't talk about it much because it sucks and that's all there is to it.
I gained 20 pounds after I quit smoking and over the holidays, I told myself that I could only focus on one thing at a time and quitting smoking was hard, so I ate whatever I wanted and moved very little. My husband and son didn't mind because I baked a lot of goodies, but that's all over now, after I hit 20 pounds, I went and joined weight watchers. I've tried to analyze myself and I think that I replaced smoking with eating and now I'm trying to break that habit. I'm trying to convince myself that I can replace the eating with exercising at night.
I should mention that I've been considering this for a while, I have a couple of goals. I realize it's a long way off, but I want to be at goal weight before I turn 40, I'm only 37, so I've given myself plenty of time. I'm not going to purposely go slow, I want to get there before I turn 40, 39 would be fine, 38 even better. I'm giving it my best effort. I have set my first smaller goal, that is to run a 5k this summer.
So, over the weekend I downloaded c25k on my phone and today I did week 1 day 1. The work out is as follows: walk for 5 minutes, then alternate jogging for 1 minute and walking for 90 seconds 8 times then another 5 minute walk. Total time exercising 30 minutes. I started doing some walking about a month ago, so it's not like I was just coming off the couch like the trainers say you can, and honestly, the jogging about killed me, an hour and a half later, my chest is scratchy and my right shin hurts, but I do feel pretty good about it, I'm hoping the weather holds so I can do it again on Thursday. And I must be honest, I didn't really run every bit of the running time, I ran the largest portion of each of those minutes, but only did a full minute 1 time. It will get better, but this program is supposed to be 8 weeks, I wonder if I should stay with week 1 workouts until I master it? I'm going to ask my step-daughter, she's a Physical Therapist and a runner, maybe she will have some insight, we'll see.
Since I joined Weight Watchers, I haven't lost much weight, I know that I haven't given it 100%, but I also think that my metabolism is slow getting started, lack of nicotine will do that I have read. I'm going to try and do better on program - I do fine during the week 90% of the time, but the weekends are so hard, then I tell myself that it can't be all bad if I do perfectly 90% of 5/7th's of the time, right?
Any comments are welcome, I don't know if anyone will read this, maybe it's just for me. I'd like to say how much weight I'm going to lose, but then I'm afraid that someone I actually know will read it and I'm embarrassed by my weight, so I'm not posting it yet...maybe later, stay tuned.
